The Battle of Chang Shan was a battle between Yuan Shao and Gongsun Zan.

Battle[]

With no home of his own, Lu Bu and his army took service under Yuan Shao, who was beginning a campaign against Gongsun Yuan. Yuan Shao sent Lu Bu to head for Changshan's summit and deal with the enemy forces. Gongsun Zan's officer Zhang Yan was in charge of the base, so Lu Bu slew Zuozi Zhangba, and killed Guo Daxian after he tried to slay him in an ambush. Zhang Yan was now rapidly losing his officers to Lu Bu in the battle. Li Damu, Qing Niujiao and Huang Long were also slain in the battle, and Zhang Yan fled the battlefield. Then, Yuan Shao gave the order for his army to move out, and broke into Changshan Castle. The castle was held by Liu Bei and Gongsun Yue, and Lu Bu led the assault. Gongsun Zan was defeated, and Yuan Shao had achieved two things: victory over a rival and eliminating the bandits. But he had lost Lu Bu; he had fled to Zhang Yang's Forces.
