Biography[]
Liao Hua was a native of Xiangyang. He was the chief secretary for Guan Yu, General of the Front. When Guan Yu was defeated, Liao Hua was taken into Wu. However, he desired to return to the Former Ruler (Liu Bei). He thus feigned death and tricked those around him into believing that he was dead. Upon that, he took his mother and escaped westward, traveling night and day. Right then, the Former Ruler was marching eastward, and the two met up at Zigui. The Former Ruler was greatly pleased, and instated Liao Hua as grand administrator of Yidu. After the passing away of the Former Ruler, Liao Hua became advisor to the Prime Minister Zhuge Liang, and then onto becoming the controller of the Guangwu region. Later on, he was promoted to the position of General of the Chariots and Cavalry of the Right, given thejie privileges, and made designated inspector of Bing Province. He was also granted the title of Marquis of Zhongxiang. He was famous for his determination and prowess. His position was equal to that of Zhang Yi's and second only to Zong Yu. Liao Hua was made a commander during Zhuge Liang's Northern Expeditions, and participated in all of them. He later served in the campaigns of Jiang Wei, as a veteran commander. In the final battle for Shu, he fought and defended it until its end. He died of old age shortly after at the age of seventy-nine.
